Efficient Indoor Water Use
Reducing your indoor water use can be achieved through a combination of installing high-efficiency devices and some simple changes in behavior.
Check out some of the ways you can save water indoors:
1. Install high-efficiency toilets, washing machines, faucets and shower heads. Get rebate information.
2. Check for leaks. The average household's leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year!
3. Repair dripping faucets.
4. Turn on your washing machine and dishwasher for full loads only. Doing so saves up to 1,000 gallons of water per month!
5. Filling your bathtub halfway saves up to 30 gallons of water.
6. Limit showers to 5 minutes or less.
7. Turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth or washing your face.
8. Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap.
9. When washing dishes by hand, fill a bucket or one side of the sink with soapy water. After the dishes have been scrubbed clean, rinse them under light-running water from the faucet.
10. Defrost food in the refrigerator and not under running water.
11. Use excess or leftover ice cubes to water houseplants.
