In the first fifty years of service, the potable water system has grown considerably. Today potable water is serviced to more than 65,000 residents over a 122-square mile area. LVMWD serves some 25,000 acre-feet of potable water annually, all purchased from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California as there is no local source of potable water within district boundaries. The potable water system includes 24 tanks, 24 pumping station, 394 miles of main lines, the 10,000 acre-foot Las Virgenes Reservoir and the Westlake Filtration Plant, capable of producing 15 million gallons of water a day.
