Leaving the lake, water then flows through the Angeles Tunnel (7 miles) to Castaic Power Plant, Castaic Lake, and Castaic Dam (constructed between 1965 and 1974).  This is the end of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct.  The lake holds 324,000 acre-feet of water and was built to provide emergency storage during a shutdown of the California Aqueduct, to satisfy regulatory storage requirements and for recreational activities.
