Solar-Cup-2016 237-WEBSponsored by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, this high school program challenges teens from across Southern California to design and build a solar-powered boat. This seven-month program culminates in a competition held at Lake Skinner in Riverside County. During the program, students develop engineering, design, math and communication skills in a real world application.

LVMWD sponsored two teams in 2016—the David Gonzales School, a six-year veteran team, and Calabasas High School, a three-year veteran team.

This year, Calabasas High School finished 7th overall and took 1st place for the Foothill Region in the 200-meter sprint competition. The David Gonzales School placed 16th overall. Read more about this year's competition.
